Lurking shadows, eerie sound effects, and a general dark atmosphere create an overall bone-chilling ambience for QUAKE 64. A rip in the dimensional fabric has resulted in "Slipgates," through which monsters from different worlds enter ours. Your job is to exterminate these invaders using the variety of weapons at your disposal. Begin the mission with an ax and a single-barrel shotgun, and later graduate to using rail guns and rocket launchers to make mincemeat out of the unworldly creatures. There's also the Thunderbolt, an immensely power weapon with self-generating energy capability. Even better are power-ups that dramatically increase your strength four-fold, but these are few and far between. On the defensive side, armor, Biosuits, and Megahealth boxes provide your line of protection. Four levels of difficulty, a Two-Play mode, and customizable Controller settings give you the chance to test your skills and endurance level. The precise and responsive play control adds to your chances of survival as you fight to save our world from doom and mayhem.
